Caterina Piccardo Bio

I was born in Genoa in 1992 and, since childhood, have had a special inclination toward the creative world of figurative arts. I would often experiment with my artist grandfather in his workshop and I was naturally drawn to training in the arts.
After studying art through high school, I pursued my Bachelor's degree in Theatrical Production Design, graduating with highest honors from the Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa, Italy in 2015.
I began work early, and from 2010 until 2013 I worked with a street theater company named Teatro Scalzo. I worked as the Technical and Production Designer, and also performed, while traveling around Europe.

2012
• The experience with Teatro Scalzo gave me the opportunity to work as assistant Production Designer for one of the most important contemporary theater companies in Genoa, the Archivolto Theater, for the setup of "When Nina Simone Stopped Singing," a show directed by Giorgio Gallione. Contemporaneously, the exhibition "An Idea for the
Theater, A Theater of Ideas" was being held at Palazzo Ducale, also in Genoa.

2013
• I organized two exhibitions by the contemporary artist Marta Dell'Angelo at the Museum of Villa Croce and at the Cultural Foundation of Camogli. I also participated in the artist's live performance "...and they arrived".
• I worked as the Production Designer on a cultural and musical project in association with Trasherz, a very active organization popular with young Genoese audiences.

2014
• I helped director Ninni Miglietta in the private staging of "The Importance of being Ernest," once again as assistant Production Designer.
• In the spring of the same year, I lent a creative hand to setting up "Hamlet," which was performed for inmates at Genoa's Marassi Detention Center. This particular experience had a profoundly significant effect on me.

2015
• I exhibited my video artwork, "Correspondences" in the Old Customs Hall of Palazzo Ducale, Genoa.
I also participated as a painter with the Rotta Art Gallery in Genoa, where in May 2017 I had my first solo show exhibiting thirty paintings.

2017
• I moved to Los Angeles and graduated in February 2020 with a Master in Fine Arts for Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy.
Meanwhile I was called to return to Italy to be part of an amazing project, "Walk the Line", where I had to paint one of the 100 pillars of a freeway in Genoa. I painted a 40’ tall strong woman in four days.
From 2017 until now I have been working as a Production Designer on short films and feature films.
I have worked on more than fifty short films with directors from all over the world and several
feature films as a Production Designer, which are distributed on streaming platforms as Amazon Prime video, Hulu and Peacock.

2020

-In the Summer of 2020 I was selected from among more than 7000 applicants for the Academy Gold Mentorship Program. I seek to improve my knowledge of the film industry by talking with some of the biggest figures in Hollywood.

The opportunity of an eight month mentorship with a significant Production Designer in the industry is exciting for me. This is only the beginning: I am committed to work as hard as I can to distinguish myself in the field of Production Design.
